Discusses women and Original Sin

Elsie Aidinoff has published her first novel at the age of 74. The Garden retells the story of the Garden of Eden through the eyes of an enquiring, intelligent Eve and introduces readers to a gentle Adam, a wise and beautiful serpent and the elderly and cantankerous figure of God.

Jenni talks to Elsie about why she felt she compelled to write this book, and discusses Original Sin, where our interpretation of it comes from, how it has influenced the representation of women and how it is viewed by different religions. Jenni is also joined by Griselda Pollock, Professor of cultural analysis at the University of Leeds and Dr Tina Beattie, Reader in Christian studies at the Roehampton University.

The Garden by Elise Aidinoff, published by Doubleday - ISBN: 0385608942
The New Catholic Feminism: Theology, Gender Theory and Dialogue by Dr Tina Beattie, published by Routledge - ISBN: 0415301475
