  Anglo-Indian women 12 Jan 2006
Life in their community today

During the days of the Raj there were, inevitably, relationships between the British men who worked in India and the Indian women they met there.  The offspring of such unions were known as Eurasians. More recently they became Anglo-Indians and if you’re familiar with the novels of Rumer Godden you’ll know the women were considered beautiful, but no better than they should be.

Clare Jenkins has been to India to find out what life is like now for women in the Anglo-Indian community.
