Female supermarket employees 12 Jan 2006
Short-changed?

The supermarket chain Morrisons was facing the prospect of a flood of sex discrimination claims from women in its finance department who said that they are being offered significantly less redundancy pay than the male employees in the company's distribution depots. The dispute was resolved yesterday.  But why do women continue to find themselves in this position?

Supermarkets with their flexible and part-time work opportunities are major employers of women but are they short-changing their female employees?

Sarah Veale, Head of Equality and Employment Rights at the TUC - who has contributed to the government's Women and Work Commission which will be reporting its findings shortly - and lawyer Anne Nicholson who has acted for many employers, join Jenni to discuss the position of women on the employment landscape.
