  Heroines 04 Jan 2006
Who do women look up to today?

In the ten years since Bridget Jones’ Diary was published in 1996 there has been a whole raft of similar books published that have been dubbed Chick Lit.  The phenomenal success of these novels clearly suggests that they appeal to women, but what do they say about women’s lives today, and what message do they have about the current state of feminism?

Jenni is joined by Imelda Whelehan Professor of English and Woman’s studies at De Montfort University in Leicester to discuss chick lit, and asks what kinds of heroines these novels provide for women today?

The Feminist Bestseller by Imelda Whelehan, published by Palgrave McMillan – ISBN1403911223
