 A look at her life
Legend has it that Chicago May, was a tall girl with red-gold hair, big blue eyes and compellingly attractive to men. She was born in rural Ireland in 1871 and at the age of 19 stole her families' life savings and ran away to America where she became an urban legend, able to bite the stones out of men's scarf-pins while she pretended to bury her face against their chests.
Jenni speaks to Nuala O'Faolain, author of a new book about Chicago May. She talks about the life of this remarkable woman dubbed by the tabloids 'The Queen of the Underworld', and why she felt compelled to tell her story.
