On her feelgood film, Mad Hot Ballroom

Who would have thought that people could become so enthralled by the sight of celebrities in sequins attempting the rumba? But the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing is hugely popular. Luring celebs onto the dance floor may be one thing but what about some street hardened kids from New York City?

Ballroom dancing is the subject of the new feelgood film Mad Hot Ballroom which opens this weekend. It was made by a group of women on a shoe-string budget and is on the shortlist for the Oscars. It looks at the lives of a group of 11-year-old school children in New York City as they're transformed by ballroom dancing lessons from street kids to young ladies and gentlemen. 

Martha is joined by Amy Sewell, writer and producer of the film.

Mad Hot Ballroom is in cinemas around the country from 25 November, certificate U
