Solving the pensions crisis
More than 2.2 million pensioners already live below the official poverty line and the vast majority are older women. Just 30% of women are entitled to a full state pension when they retire because they do not earn enough or have had gaps in their working life.
Next week the Pensions Commission will finally publish its findings after 3 years of research on how to solve the long term pensions crisis Brtain faces. But how will those recommendations be reflected in government policy and how will any future pledges actually make any difference to those older women currently facing years of hardship?
Baroness Patricia Hollis and Malcolm Rifkind, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, join Martha.
