  Zainab Salbi 25 Nov 2005
Growing up in the shadow of Saddam Hussein

Zainab Salbi was 11 when her father was chosen to be Saddam Hussein’s personal pilot and her family’s life completely changed.

When she was 20, her mother talked her into an arranged marriage in America. Zainab found herself stranded in an unknown country by the Gulf War and wed to an abusive stranger.

Zainab tells Martha how she survived by using the skills her mother taught her and created a global organisation to help female victims of war.
