  Pakistan earthquake 03 Nov 2005
Pregnant women without adequate nutrition

The United Nations Population Fund is appealing for over 2 million pounds to help an estimated forty thousand pregnant women  caught up in the Pakistani earthquake. Many hospitals in the area were completely destroyed or rendered unusable by the  disaster.

Thousands of expectant mothers are without adequate nutrition, medicines and antenatal care to help them deliver safely. The  Fund is concerned that the physical and psychological trauma caused by Saturday's devastating quake could push this figure  even higher.

Jane Little is joined from Islamabad by Dr France Donnay, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, UNFPA representative in Pakistan  and in Manchester by Angela Brown, Head of the team on the ground in Sri Lanka and Indonesia post-tsunami.
