  Vanity 7 Oct 2005
When does self-love turn to self-obsession?

If you take the increase in the numbers of people having plastic surgery in this country as an indicator, it's fair to say that we are becoming much more vain as a nation. Cosmetic operations in BUPA hospitals were up by nearly a third last year, and the use of botox has exploded in the last three years by an incredible 2,500%. But have we forgotten the true meaning of vanity?

Woman's Hour explores the positive side of vanity and asks where we draw the line between healthy self-respect and unhealthy self-obsession.
