How to make a quality meal on a budget

Students have traditionally survived on a diet of baked beans but cookery books aimed at students are trying to change that.

Back in the early 60s, Katharine Whitehorn blazed the trail for virgin chefs on a budget with her Cooking in a Bedsitter.

Katharine joins Jenni along with Fiona Beckett, author of Beyond Baked Beans to find out how student cooking has changed, and what remains the same.

Beyond Baked Beans by Fiona Beckett, published by Absolute Press - ISBN: 1899791833
Cooking in a Bedsitter by Katharine Whitehorn, published by Penguin Books Ltd ISBN:0140468552

Extremely easy stir-fry
Easiest ever pasta sauce
