  Bogus spy 7 September 2005
Victim speaks out

Robert Hendy Freegard has been found guilty of two counts of kidnap, 10 of theft and eight of deception.

Spinning an elaborate web of deceit, he managed to charm at least 7 intelligent, educated women and trick them and one man out of up to £1 million.

He convinced Sarah Smith, one of his victims, that he was working as an undercover secret agent for the government, and forced her to work long hours in menial jobs, robbing her of her identity and any contact with her family.

Sarah talks to Jenni about the ten years of her life she lost to Freegard's lies, and how she's coping since.

Plus Rachel Taylor, principal lecturer in psychology, University of Glamorgan talks to Jenni about falling victim to such lying and the psychology of both victim and perpetrator.
