Is this the end of the women's movement?
On the 9th of August, relatives of Ayotallah Shirazi, including women and children were attacked as they performed mourning rituals at his grave, usually considered a sacrosanct Islamic act.
Some of the women sustained serious injuries. It's unprecedented for women to be attacked in what has traditionally been seen as a paternalistic Islamic state.
Jenni is joined by Professor Haleh Afshar from the Centre of Woman’s Studies at the University of York to discuss whether this event indicates a sea change in how Iranian women are being treated by the new Iranian government and whether it spells the end of the country’s women’s movement?
