  RNLI 20 August 2005

Bronze Medal for Gallantry recipient

Most of us have probably visited the seaside at some point in August. Usually the hottest month of the year means its thronging with people, enjoying ice creams, boat trips, a swim if you can brave the icy water. But it's not just busy for the ice cream sellers August is also the busiest month for the RNLI, the lifeboat service.

A year ago Aileen Jones answered a distress call and saved two lives, and as a consequence became the first female RNLI crew member to have been awarded their bronze medal for gallantry. A year on, she tells Martha Kearney what happened.

For more information about the Train One, Save Many campaign or to make a donation, visit RNLI or telephone 0800 543 210
