What's the attraction of miniature houses?
What image does a doll's house conjure up for you? Small girls playing house with even smaller dolls? Well the world of miniatures is far from just being child's play - there are plenty of grown ups building every type of house of every historical period and furnishing them down to the last detail.
So what’s the attraction of miniatures? Judi Herman met buyers and sellers at one of the shows for collectors held all over the country. But first she went to Leonardslee Gardens in Sussex, where an exhibition called Behind the Dolls’ House shows in miniature the working of an Edwardian country estate and village, built by Helen Holland, who specializes in researching and modelling miniature historic buildings and scenes.
