Drama therapy for anorexics
Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa affect more than a million people a year in Great Britain.
The disorders are treated in a variety of ways ranging from anti-depressants to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
At the Woodbourne Priory Hospital in Birmingham, young patients in its Eating Disorders Unit are also treated using a new, and seemingly highly effective, weekly session of drama and movement therapy.
Judi Herman went to the Priory to meet three of the young women on the programme, Julia, Emily and Tara. She also met Maxine Jones, Manager of the Eating Disorders Unit and Debby Rothenburg who devised and leads the class.
