Beslan school siege 19 July 2005
Mothers call for an independent inquiry

In southern Russia, the only hostage-taker authorities say survived last year's school siege in Beslan has gone on trial.

Nurpashi Kulayev is accused of murder and terrorism after more than 330 people died in the three-day siege. More than half of them were children. But the mothers of many of those who were killed are angry that only one man has gone on trial for the deaths of their children. They've formed a campaign group, calling for a full an independent inquiry into what really went on inside School number 1 last September.
