  Family holidays 22 July 2005

Are they a pleasurable experience?

It's that time of year again when parents and children look forward to spending a family holiday together.

But is going on holiday with your children always a pleasurable experience? Who enjoys it more - the children or the adults? And would women with family responsibilities prefer to go on holiday without bringing along their children, at least now and again?

Jane Little discusses this with journalist Joanna Moorhead, who recently spent a week on holiday away from her four children for the first time and wrote a diary of her experience in the Guardian, and Joan Burnie, associate editor of the Daily Record.
