 Is there a genetic link?
An estimated one in twenty British children are diagnosed with a degree of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Prescriptions of the drug Ritalin have shot from 6,000 in the mid-90s to more than 300,000 in 2003. And research is looking into whether there is a genetic basis in the condition.
Jenni hears from Ben Polis, whose new book "Only A Mother Could Love Him" tells of his struggle with ADHD.
She also discusses whether there is a family link with Aiveen Kirley, who has been investigating genetic traits in ADHD at Trinity College Dublin, and child and adolescent psychiatrist Sami Timimi - Whose contribution to a new book called "Making and Breaking Childrens Lives" argues that ADHD is a construct of media scaremongering and over-medicalising problems.
