Her hopes for Africa

She is, according to Bob Geldof, "proof that we can make a difference". Tony Blair has called her "a beacon of hope and an inspiration to millions".

Birhan Woldu was the 3 year old Ethiopian girl, filmed by the world's media as she lay dying during the Ethiopian famine of 1984. And then, she re-appeared, on the Live 8 stage earlier this month, four thousand miles from home, a healthy 24 year old student, linking hands with the world's most famous pop stars in front of a global audience of billions.

Now the G8 summit is all over and the pop stars and politicians have gone home, Birhan talks in her only broadcast interview about the last twenty years, and about her hopes for Africa.
