Why some Australian women are calling for an end to adoption
On 21 June one group of mothers in South Australia lobbyed their State government for changes to the laws on adoption. They are known as 'relinquishing mothers': women who gave up their children for adoption as recently as the 1970s because they felt under pressure to do so.
Many were young, single mothers from tight knit communities where having children outside marriage was considered a scandal. Controversially, they are calling for an end to adoption altogether.
Sharon Mascall reports.
