  Ruth Padel 20 June 2005
In search of the tiger

When award winning poet Ruth Padel saw an advert for a cheap break to India, she decided to mark the end of a long relationship by visiting the tropical jungle and a wildlife sanctuary.

Her impromptu visit turned out to be the start of a remarkable two year journey through eleven countries in search of that most elusive, beautiful and endangered animal: the tiger.

The result is the book “Tigers in Red Weather”, a blend of natural history, travel literature, memoir and portrait of an animal loved and feared, now facing extinction.

As a poet and the great-great-grandaughter of Charles Darwin, Ruth tells Jenni about her fascination for the tiger.

Tigers in Red Weather is published by Little, Brown on 23rd June.
