  Wraparound childcare 20 June 2005
Pupils and teacher in classroom
Exploring the new proposals

Last week the Education Secretary Ruth Kelly announced a £680 million programme to ensure that within five years every single school child will have access to before and after school care. This will be either at their school or in the community, between 8am and 6pm both in term time and in the holidays.

Jenni asks how much this will help parents, children and teachers. Will it improve current levels of childcare or just provide a handy excuse for employers to keep parents at work longer which might not be so good for their children?

Guests:
Anne Longfield, Chief Executive of 4Children, a charity for the care, education and personal development of children, and  Deborah Jackson, child care author.
