Aung San Suu Kyi 17 June 2005
Renewed efforts to release the Burmese opposition leader

As the only Nobel Peace Prize winner currently under house arrest, Burma’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will celebrate her 60th birthday on 19 June at her home in Rangoon.

Although her family and friends are not allowed to visit her, she will not be alone. Groups around the world have been organising a 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign', calling for her immediate release.  Irish singer Damien Rice has also written a song for her entitled Unplayed Piano.
