 Why does the media represent tidy women as neurotic?
Bree Van der Kamp in Desperate Housewives is obsessed with keeping the house just so. As is Monica in Friends who is represented as neurotic for favouring an immaculate apartment. In Britain, Hyacinth Bouquet is unhealthily interested in Keeping up Appearances. It seems the media loves to portray tidy women as comical and unhinged.
So have we come to see tidiness as a pathology and are tidy men portrayed in the same way?
