Useful lessons from the Victorians
Growing roses has been a popular British pastime for centuries - whether they be in the shape of small bushes or are one of the climbing or rambling variety. But providing adequate support for the climbing rose can be tricky as the plant grows bigger.
At her historic garden in Shropshire, Katherine Swift grows ramblers and climbers in the Victorian section. She shows Maggie Ayre two useful techniques practiced by Victorian gardeners to train roses.
