 Edna Adan is the Foreign Minister for Somaliland, a breakaway republic
The international community, including the UK, does not recognise Somaliland as a separate country and does not recommend travel to any part of the Somalian territory.
Somaliland came onto our collective radar recently on the current BBC2 series Holidays in the Danger Zone - Places that don't exist.
It is a breakaway republic within one of the most dangerous places on earth, Somalia in East Africa, but the makers of the programme were astounded to find that it was relatively safe, and there was a working parliament - although full elections have yet to take place.
Edna Adan was the wife of the Prime Minister of Somalia before the 1969 military coup, and worked for the World Health Organisation since 1965. She trained as a midwife in the UK in the 1950's.
