A new biography of Mamas & Papas singer
Cass Elliot was the most famous member of the sixties pop group, The Mamas and the Papas.
Initially she wasn't allowed to join the band because of her weight, but the power of her voice forced a change of heart. Cass Elliot died of a heart attack at just 32. The myth that she choked on a ham sandwich persists, despite evidence to the contrary.
