 In the old days primary schools often had separate playgrounds for boys and girls
Although this might have been considered divisive it did have the advantage of keeping boys who wanted to play more boisterous games of football away from girls who might have wanted to play more quietly.
Now that children are out together, many schools have found that some girls are reluctant to go out in the playground at all, fearing for their safety from the boys.
Birkby Infant and Nursery School in Huddersfield has reorganised their playground into different zones and as a result has found that not only have the girls benefited by being able to utilise the space better, but all the children are more stimulated, challenged and active.
And because of this, lunchtime behaviour has improved by a staggering 565% and the children are more eager to learn in the classroom.
