New production of the classic Lorraine Hansberry play about a black family in the 50’s
Lorraine Hansberry inspired the phrase 'young, gifted and black'.
At the age of just 29 her play A Raisin in the Sun made its debut on Broadway. It was 1959 and the civil rights movement was gathering pace.
The play was a sensation - and has become one of the greatest American dramas of the 20th century.
A new production is touring - its star Novella Nelson will be with Jenni remembering the effect the play had on her when she saw it as a young black woman in the 50's.
A Raisin in the Sun is on tour from 05 April - 07 May 2005
