why is it on the rise in Northern Ireland?
The Home Office has announced that March is Domestic Violence Month. But in Northern Ireland, domestic violence is on the rise. Since the beginning of the year, three women have been murdered by their partners. This is an alarming increase compared to recent years.
The Guildhall in Londonderry is the location for Caroline's Day. This ceremony of songs and speeches is held every year to commemorate the birthday of Caroline McCrossan, just one of the victims of domestic violence in Northern Ireland.
Louise Williams went along to meet some of the families.
