 Why waiting times are bad news for female patients
According to a report last week from Doctors For Reform, waiting times between diagnosis and first treatment for cancer patients in the UK would be unacceptable in most of Europe and the USA. The situation is particularly bad for women, with 40 percent of female cancer patients under the age of 70 dying.
The report claims that objectives set for cancer care by the Department of Health are still not being met, and recommends radical solutions in the private sector.
Jenni discusses the report with Dr Ian Gibson, Labour MP for Norwich North and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on cancer and Dr Maurice Slevin, chair of the cancer charity Bacup and a member of Doctors for Reform.
