Why are women less likely to take up a spanner?
A report by the Equal Opportunities Commission has shown how difficult it can be for women to take that plunge. It found that women made up less than 1% of construction workers, including plumbers.
Many local authorities across the country have established apprenticeship schemes and they're now trying to attract more women into the trades.
Perminder Khatkar spent the day with new recruits and their boss as they prepare to refit a bathroom.
