  Roses Tuesday 8 July 2003
Your love may not be like a red, red rose, but it's a dead cert that for most of us the rose is a symbol of romance.

The rose's association with love crosses cultures and centuries. In Greek mythology, the rose was closely linked to Venus, the goddess of love, as Maggie Campbell, author of The Origin of Plants explains to Corinne Julius.
'The Origin of Plants: The People and Plants That Have Shaped Britain's Garden History Since the Year 1000' by Maggie Campbell-Culver is published by Headline; ISBN: 074727214X.
