An interior designer in Turkey has become the first woman to undertake the building of a new mosque. Zeynep Fadillioglu is famous in Istanbul for her stylish cafes and opulent villas. She sees herself as the product of Turkey’s secular Republic which was established in the 1920s, and gave equal rights to men and women. But in her latest project she’s keen to revive the religious architecture of the country’s Ottoman past. Emre Azizlerli went to meet her. |
