Fasting from dawn until dusk
During Ramadan, each Muslim, without a pressing physical or mental reason for not doing so, must abstain from eating food and drinking water. It's believed that going without, from sunrise to sunset, redirects the mind to spiritual concerns, and helps one to sympathise with those who go without life’s necessities. The fast ends with the celebration of the festival of Eid. Broadcaster Yasmeen Khan reflects on the challenges of the month of abstinence.
