The History of Cosmetics - Lipstick  29th May 2007
In 18th century England, fashionable young things who wanted to enhance their natural attributes added a little colour and shine to their pout by smearing on a special concoction of hog’s lard and crushed rose petals. History does not record what the effect was once they were kissed. As part of our series on the history of cosmetics, archaeologist, Sally Pointer, and Anne Emblem of the London College of Fashion, introduce Anna McNamee to the racy history of lipstick.
