Vienna Public Signs Gender Change  21st May 2007

This year, the Vienna City Council has launched a campaign to show images of women as well as men on public information signs in an attempt to fight bias in Austria, a country where women are said to earn 24 per cent less than men in the same jobs and are under-represented in politics, business and the public sector. The traditional "Exit" sign of a stick man in motion has been replaced by a woman in a skirt and the signs for nappy-changing facilities have changed gender, too. Bethany Bell reports from Vienna on how the campaign is being received.
