Soca: Does my bum look big in this? 14th March 2007
Notting Hill Carnival 2006 photograph by Jon Choo on flickr
With lyrics like ‘shake your bum-bum’, it’s no surprise that Soca celebrates the backside. It’s a form of dance music from the Caribbean with moves that focus on the hips, waist and bottom. Victoria Hannaford joins a Soca aerobics class in south London and talks to women about how the bottom is viewed in the black community and at the same time, she has her own asset evaluated.
