The Mother of all Insults 14 July 2006
Zinadine Zidane was given a red card in Sunday’s World Cup final for head-butting Marco Materazzi. He apologised for his actions but insisted he had no regrets about what he did: the Italian provoked him by repeatedly insulting his mother and sister.  So why is insulting someone’s mother deemed to be so offensive? And what does it tell us about the way society views women?

Martha is joined by journalist Joan Smith and Tony Thorne, Director of the Language Centre at King's College, London.
Please note that given the nature of this discussion it will contain some strong language.
