Sankofa is an African word that means 'learning from the past to move forward to the future'. It's also the name given to an exhibition of African ceramics currently showing at the Manchester Museum. Many of the ceramics have been designed and made by women in various parts of Africa.
Clare Jenkins discovers how the continent's traditions of ceramics have evolved over time. She talks to exhibition curator, Moira Vincentelli and Ian Fairweather, lecturer in social anthropology at Manchester University.
