What do we stand to lose if voluntary adoption agencies are forced to close?
By February, the Manchester Adoption Society will be no more. The Society has been placing children with adoptive families since 1965 but falling incomes, the recession and the increasing costs of enacting child protection proceedures are forcing it to close. There are 27 voluntary adoption agencies which specialise in finding homes for vulnerable children in England and a report published in September found that all of them are under threat.
