Helping new migrants to the cities
A new radio programme, 'Old City New Dreams', has recently been set up in Kabul to assist people in their everyday lives. It follows on from the 15-year-old soap 'New Home New Life', which was originally based on The Archers and was aimed at listeners living in rural areas. 'Old City New Dreams' is part of the World Service Trust's Afghan Education Project, and aims to target the urban populations as many people are now choosing to migrate into the cities. It is unusual in that it is being recorded ‘on location’ rather than in a recording studio. One day they hope to record out and about in parks and bazaars but at the moment due to security restrictions they have to make do with recording up on the roof! Felicity Finch went to Kabul to speak to some of the team creating the programme.
