Social
Online safety 5 November 2009
Who’s responsible for ensuring young people are protected on the internet?

Following the recent murder of the teenager Ashleigh Hall by a man she was reported to have met online, her mother begged other parents to warn their children about the perils of the internet. But who is really responsible for children’s internet safety? Is it up to parents, or service providers, or do we need to make young people themselves more aware of the dangers of displaying personal information? To discuss internet grooming Jenni is joined by Helen Penn, Educational Director at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, and by Julia Davidson, Professor of Criminology at Kingston University.

Online groomers: Profiling, policing and prevention By Julia Davidson and Petter Gottschalk will be published later this month by Russell House Publishing ISBN:978-1-905541-56-0
