South African athlete Caster Semenya was ordered to submit to a gender test by the International Association of Athletics Federations after the newcomer clocked the best result this year in a women’s 800m race. It’s been reported she was examined by an endocrinologist, a gynaecologist, an internal medicine expert, an expert on gender and a psychologist. But what were they all looking for?
