Health
Children with diabetes 9 Dec 2008
Why are some schools unable or unwilling to support pupils with diabetes?

According to the charity Diabetes UK, the health of many children with Type 1 Diabetes is threatened due to poor care in primary schools. Recent research by the charity has revealed that 84% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 in England alone are not covered by school medication policies which should ensure that they get insulin injections when they need them. Jane discusses the issue with Libby Dowling, a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse; and Christine Blower, the acting Deputy Secretary of the NUT.
