Work
Emma Cianchi 07 Nov 2008
Emma Cianchi and her pigs
Britain's youngest rare pig breeder.

At just 15, Emma Cianchi is probably the youngest rare pig breeder in the country. She’s made a name for herself in Herefordshire with her own herd of twenty two pigs, which include Tamworths, Middle Whites and Saddle Backs. Many of the old breeds died out altogether in the nineteen hundreds when farmers were encouraged to raise just three types of pig which were faster growing and so better suited to commercial farming. Emma’s venture, which started on a small scale just a year ago, is now a successful family business. She recently launched her own stall at Monmouth Farmer’s market in Gwent. Fiona Parsons went to meet Emma and her and her parents.
