A new Elizabethan garden for Kenilworth Castle.
During the past year, excavations have been taking place in the grounds of Kenilworth Castle, where English Heritage are recreating a magnificent Elizabethan garden. Influenced by the Italian Renaissance, it was the vision of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. He hoped the garden would so impress Elizabeth the First, that she would marry him. On a very windy afternoon, Felicity Finch went to Kenilworth to meet writer and historian, Trea Martyn, and Lorraine Knowles from English Heritage.
‘Elizabeth in the Garden’ by Trea Martyn is published by Faber and Faber ISBN 978-0-571 21693-2
Trea will be talking about her book and the garden at Kenilworth on Thursday 30 October, in The Walled Garden at Cowdray, West Sussex. The Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth CastleDisclaimer
