Social
Feminism on the curriculum? 12 Aug 2008
Should teenage girls be taught feminism at school?

Teenage girls are regularly using terms such as “slut” and “whore” to describe themselves without fully understanding the true meaning of the words. That’s according to research by Dr Jessica Ringrose, Lecturer in the Sociology of Gender at the Institute of Education in London, who has called for feminism to be taught in schools. She argues that there is a lack of strong, non-sexualised role models for girls and that there needs to be room on the school curriculum to look at violence against women and sexist bullying.
