Toys 24 April 2008
Deborah Jaffe explores the popularity of of dolls.

At a time when there is fierce debate about anorexic models and the size zero, it’s interesting that the Barbie doll, often blamed for girls’ unrealistic expectations about how they should look, is facing stiff competition from the Bratz dolls – who are frankly a little chubbier and even wear trainers rather than vertiginous stilettos – so perhaps the tide is beginning to turn. In the second part of our series on toys, Deborah Jaffe explores the popularity of all kinds of dolls. She talked with Corinne Julius.
